Why do you want this character?: Explain to us why you are choosing this character. 3-5 line preferred.
Spike has a lot of attributes I connect well with. He’s young at heart, sarcastic, eager to please, frequently overrun by his more willful companions, frequently the voice of reason, but still impulsive and unsure of himself. And ultimately he’s there for you when no one else is.
How often are you online?: Being a canon can be a lot of responsibility. In many ways it's like being staff.
Not as frequently as I would like. I’m on most nights starting around 8 or so pacific time 'til past midnight, which is really late for a lot of the country. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to be on while I’m at work.
Personality: Show us your knowledge of the character.
Spike is a very intelligent little dragon, but is still a child at heart. He works hard as much because he’s desperate for attention and approval as because he understands the value of hard work. At the same time, he doesn’t like being dependant on the ponies in his life, which has twice led him to try to strike out on his own. However, the desire to ‘be his own dragon’ is usually a way of lashing out against his own failings, real or perceived.
Despite all that, when the chips are down Spike has your back. No matter how impossible it is, whether you need to be rescued from diamond dogs or need an understudy for the Element of Loyalty or just really need someone to let your understanding mentor know you’re going off the deep end before you do something you can’t make up for, you can count on him.
That is, if he hasn’t already fallen asleep.

The door to the library swings open with a slight creek, revealing a pudgy purple-and-green scaled baby dragon. The steps leading up to the door put him almost at a pony’s eye level, and this gives a better view of the surprised look he wears at the library’s visitor. “uh… hey Macintosh,” he greeted in his scratchy little voice. “Haven’t seen you around the library before.” The dragon steps easily aside to admit the stallion ten times his weight. He turns and walks along the tightly packed shelves, waving a claw at the selection “So, is there something I can help you find?”
Macintosh answered “aanope. It’s somepony ah need ta find.” He shuffled a little nervously and kept glancing at a gray lump in the saddlebags he was wearing, and then looking away. “Ah need’ta talk to Twilight about… somethin’.”
“No can do, big guy,” said Spike, gazing wistfully for just a moment out the library’s bay window toward the distant mountain-city of Canterlot. He shook the loneliness off of his face and forced his eyes back to Macintosh. “Princess Cadence invited her to spend the night at the castle together while Shining’s off visiting the border. They’re probably doing all kinds of really girly stuff together. Like that little dance thing they do every time they see each other now.” He made a little gagging noise. “I mean, what’s up with mares shaking their rumps at each other, am I right?”
Macintosh stared blankly in reply, having no clue what the dragon was talking about. “So…” he worked out, “she’s not here?”
Spike gave him a shrug. “Sorry.” Then he brightened up. “But what did you need to ask Twilight about? Hey, maybe I can help!”
Macintosh only grew more agitated, turning to put his significant mass between Spike and the stuffed doll in his right saddlebag. “Aanope! Thanks Spike, but Ah’ll just have’ta catch ‘er another time!” With that, he turned and burst back through the library doors, setting off down the street at a dead gallop.
Spike stared after the fleeing stallion with a perplexed look on his face. “What was that about?” A claw came up to his chin as he thought for a moment. “Was Big Macintosh going to ask Twilight…” he let the question hang in the air. “Nah.” He shrugged and gave a little noncommittal noise, then closed the door.
